Lomanthang Cashmere Fiber Processing
The cashmere / pashmina, which is collected from all the households by the village committee, are taken to the fiber processing unit. Lomanthang Cashmere has opened its own pashmina/cashmere fiber processing unit in a cooperative model with farmers and different national and international organizations.
There are different steps in fiber processing:
Fiber processing starts with collecting cashmere from Himalayan goats and, after different steps, finally turning it into yarn, which is further followed by knitting and weaving into different cashmere products.
1) Breeding baby Chyangra Goats
1) Combing of the Pashmina goat,
2) Fiber sorting as per color, quality, and contamination
3) Fiber opening and dedusting to remove excessive sand and dust, dandruff, and other impurities.
4) Fiber scouring using bio-degradable detergent to remove dust, sand, and natural animal grease.
5) Final sorting operation and dehairing to separate the coarse guard hair and fine down,
7) Carding all into even fibers, thus ready for spinning,
8) Hand spun all the fibers into yarns from Charkha.
9) After the yarn is spun, it can be further knitted or weaved into any cashmere product.
