Mustang Sees Significant Surge in Tourism

Myagdi: Mustang, a picturesque region in the heart of Nepal, has seen a huge rise in tourism. The number of tourists increased by 45.75% in the fiscal year 2079/80 BS, according to the Area Conservation office of Jomsom, part of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP).

Tourist Numbers on the Rise

Ashok Subedi, the In-charge of ACAP Jomsom, reported that 71,707 foreign tourists visited Mustang in the fiscal year 2079/80 BS. This is a big increase from the previous fiscal year, 2078/79 BS, which had 38,896 tourists. This means there were over 32,811 more tourists exploring Mustang in 2079/80.

Visitors from SAARC Countries

The data shows a large number of tourists from SAARC member countries. A total of 59,310 visitors came to Mustang during this period. Additionally, 6,749 tourists arrived from countries outside the SAARC region, highlighting Mustang’s international appeal.

Upper Mustang Attracts Tourists

The semi-prohibited area of Upper Mustang also saw an influx of visitors. During the fiscal year 2079/80, 3,388 tourists explored this culturally rich and historically significant area.

Several factors contributed to this rise in tourism. Favorable weather conditions and improved road access have made Mustang more attractive to travelers. The availability of comfortable hotels and lodges has also enhanced the tourist experience.
