Our products are crafted from 100% high-quality cashmere, sourced ethically from Nepal. This luxurious natural fiber is renowned for its exceptional softness, warmth, and lightweight feel. With proper care, your Lomanthang Cashmere scarf, hat, poncho, blanket, or other item will maintain its beauty and softness for many years.
Key Care Guidelines
- Made from 100% high-quality cashmere for lasting softness. Cashmere is a delicate natural fiber from the undercoat of cashmere goats. It is finer and softer than regular wool, but it requires gentle handling to prevent pilling, stretching, or felting (when fibers mat together).
- Machine wash at max 30°C on wool/gentle cycle with low spin. Many of our cashmere items are suitable for machine washing on a delicate or wool cycle using cold to lukewarm water (maximum 30°C / 86°F). Always turn the garment inside out and place it in a mesh laundry bag for extra protection. Use a low or no-spin cycle (or skip the spin entirely if possible) to avoid stretching or distortion. Hand washing is still the gentlest option see detailed steps below if you prefer this method.
- Use natural fibre detergent or mild shampoo. Choose a detergent specifically formulated for wool, cashmere, or delicates (e.g., wool wash like Woolite, The Laundress Wool & Cashmere Shampoo, or a mild, pH-neutral, non-bio liquid). Avoid regular laundry detergents, bleach, fabric softeners, or anything with enzymes/optical brighteners, as they can damage the fibers. A small amount of gentle baby shampoo or natural soap works well in a pinch.
- Lay flat to air dry. Do not tumble dry. Never put cashmere in a dryer high heat causes irreversible shrinkage, felting, and loss of softness. After washing, gently press out excess water (do not wring or twist). Roll the item in a clean towel to absorb moisture, then reshape it and lay it flat on a drying rack or clean towel away from direct heat, sunlight, or radiators. Allow it to air dry naturally.
Step-by-Step Hand Washing (Recommended for Best Results)
- Fill a clean basin or sink with cool to lukewarm water (max 30°C).
- Add a small amount (1–2 teaspoons) of cashmere/wool detergent or mild shampoo. Swirl to dissolve.
- Submerge the garment and gently agitate by hand do not rub, scrub, or stretch.
- Soak for 10–20 minutes (no longer than 30 minutes).
- Rinse thoroughly in cool water until no suds remain.
- Gently press (do not wring) to remove excess water.
- Roll in a towel to blot, then lay flat to dry, reshaping as needed.
Additional Tips to Keep Your Cashmere Looking Its Best
- Wash sparingly: Cashmere doesn’t need frequent washing. Air it out after each wear (hang outside or in a well-ventilated area for a few hours) to refresh it and remove odors. Spot-clean small stains with cool water and mild soap instead of full washing.
- Avoid common mistakes:
- Hot water or high heat → causes shrinkage and felting.
- Hanging while wet or on hangers long-term → stretches the shoulders or distorts shape.
- Tumble drying → shrinks and mats fibers.
- Over-washing → leads to faster pilling and loss of softness.
- Pilling: Natural with cashmere, especially in high-friction areas. Use a cashmere comb, de-piller, or fabric shaver gently to remove pills. Pilling decreases over time with proper care.
- Storage : Fold neatly (never hang) and store in a cool, dry place. Use breathable cotton/garment bags or acid-free tissue to protect from dust and moths. Add cedar blocks or lavender sachets as natural moth repellents (avoid mothballs).
- Steaming: A garment steamer can refresh wrinkles, kill bacteria, and lift fibers between washes keep it at a distance and use low steam.
Following these simple steps will help your Lomanthang Cashmere pieces stay incredibly soft, beautiful, and long-lasting.
